Kyra Kelly

MSW, LCSW, CHT

I believe that every human is unique and that therapy should be an empowering, collaborative process. I also appreciate that there are many ways one can heal, and I am passionate about supporting others to create the lives they want, while honoring the strengths they already have.

Identifying and building upon these strengths allows positive change to unfold. I have found that having a stable, trusted guide there to assist and support the growth process is crucial, and I bring this attitude to my practice. I greet each client where they are at with non-judgmental curiosity and gentle encouragement. I have found that healing is not linear, respecting your own pace is paramount, and that being able to balance deep work with self-compassion and humor is also incredibly useful. Defining and creating the life you want to live is also often a journey from surviving to thriving, which is my hope and intention for anyone I work with.

When I arrived in Eugene in 1994, I was actively seeking healing and community. As a woman who experienced trauma, abuse, and upheaval as a child, I needed to be understood and treated with gentleness. My experience of intergenerational trauma and parental mental illness was affecting my health, and I knew that I needed to learn new skills to re-parent myself with kindness. With the support of various skilled therapists and eclectic healing communities, I have been able to heal and transform the story of my life. Throughout this process, I noted how energized I felt in the therapeutic environment, and followed my interest into mentoring and working with teens in rite-of-passage work. This led me on a continuous path of learning to provide support, hold therapeutic space, and assist people in their own evolution.

Outside of the therapy office, I enjoy exploring the beauty of nature with good friends and my beloved chihuahua. I love to laugh, hike, garden, journal, and create art. Practicing mindfulness, enjoying good food, and honoring the cycles and seasons of growth are important to me in nurturing my Soul Self. Music has a special place in my heart, and living in Eugene has only deepened my love and respect for all forms of art. I love to travel and consider myself a lifelong learner.

I assist clients who are experiencing a range of presenting concerns. In my practice, I often work with those who are seeking support around anxiety, addiction issues, body image, boundaries, codependency, depression, eating disorders, emotional overwhelm, family concerns, grief & loss, giftedness (also known as Rainforest-mind), LGBTQIA+ issues, peer relationships, parenting, life coaching, life transitions and purpose, perfectionism, self-worth & self-care, sexual abuse, time management, trauma, values and core beliefs.

Counseling Technique

I operate from a strengths-based, client-centered perspective. I believe that people are the experts on their own lives. As a therapist, I support clients by holding compassionate space for them to explore their concerns. My therapeutic approach is trauma and social justice informed. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based practices to suit the individual. I often incorporate Mindfulness, Guided Imagery, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma. I may incorporate art and narrative therapy techniques into my work, as these can be powerful ways to access and transform subconscious blocks. I utilize elements of Solution Focused therapy in assisting clients to break free of old patterns that are holding them back. I also encourage clients to develop their personal connection to spirituality, whatever that may look like for them.

Professional Background

Over the past 22 years, I have worked for numerous nonprofits in the Eugene-Springfield area. I have worked in a hospital setting as well as in schools, prevention-based organizations, crisis centers, and several different residential treatment centers for co-occurring disorders. I am also comfortable working with youth and adults from a variety of backgrounds and gender identities, including non-binary. I have had extensive experience working with teens, girls and young women, young adults, survivors of interpersonal/domestic violence, sexual assault, eating disorders, addiction, and gender-specific concerns. My passion is working with individuals who are actively engaged in their own therapy.
