Are there conflicts in your family that are keeping you from being as close as you desire?

Is your family needing support in understanding how to navigate the addiction of a loved one?

Has your family unit suffered the effects of an experience or trauma?

Does your family need help learning to communicate with each other?

Are you facing the challenges of blending families and need support?

If any of these questions apply to you, then you are in the right place.

At Insight Northwest Counseling we offer family counseling to Eugene, Bend, Lake Oswego, and the surrounding areas in Oregon. We have a team of licensed professionals who specialize and focus on meeting your family where you are and supporting you on your journey to a closer and stronger family unit. Regardless of what brought you to us, we are eager to walk by your side through the trials and complexities of family relationships.

We want to provide our family clients with a safe space to share, feel heard and also to hear others. We want each member of the family to feel supported, valued and recognized for their role in the family.

Family counseling is designed to help couples and families come together to better understand one another, work more cohesively as a team and oftentimes, heal through challenges you have faced in the past. Family life is anything but easy; typically juggling multiple personality types, different feelings and opinions, varying levels of hurt and resentment, as well as many other factors in any given situation. There are several causes for discord in families and many, if not all of them can be resolved with the help of a trained professional.

Some struggles that families face include:

  • Substance abuse or addiction in the family

  • Blended families

  • Divorce or separation

  • Infidelity

  • Communication struggles

  • Extreme conflict

  • Death or loss in the family

  • Trauma

  • Significant change in circumstance

  • Mental illness

While those are some of the most common, there are infinite challenges that families face that could potentially lead them to seek the help of family therapy.

Our Approach

Our approach to family counseling is similar to that of child therapy, as well as marriage counseling. We use many different types of therapy depending on your specific needs as a family. Our goal is to sit down with your family, get to know each of you individually and together and figure out how we can best aide in your healing process. We want each member of the family to feel equally valued, heard, understood and advocated for. It is important to us that you leave the therapy session feeling stronger and healthier as a family moving forward.

Each family has a different dynamic and a unique set of challenges. We enter the process of family counseling with that in mind, so that we can best support your family specifically. Family counseling, just as every other type of counseling, is not a one-size-fits-all process. We do our best to get to know your family and all of the factors in your dynamic, to best formulate a plan for you specifically.

At Insight Northwest Counseling, we have a team of experienced marriage and family therapists and mental health professionals who are equipped to provide a wide range of care to you as an individual, as well as your family. We understand that seeking the support of a family therapist can be overwhelming and we strive to make the process as smooth and easy as possible. We offer our services both in-person and through online video counseling, making it accessible to your family no matter where you are. We want there to be as few barriers as possible between you and a healthier future.

What to expect

Family therapy can be provided by various licensed professionals. It could be a licensed marriage and family therapist (MFT), a psychologist, or a clinical social worker. All of these professionals are highly qualified and also may be credentialed by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Each of these professionals have experience in marriage and family therapy and are especially qualified and prepared to guide and support your family through whatever challenges you are facing.

The journey of family counseling doesn’t have a set time frame. If you and your family are seeking counseling to get through an isolated hardship or transition, once you have worked through that experience you may be able to conclude your counseling. If you are seeking family counseling to address a wider range of challenges or healing from a history of trauma or other damage, your therapy process can be over a longer period of time. The process of family counseling is led by your family and what best suits you – which is why the duration is not predetermined.

As a family you will meet with one of our family therapists, either in-person or virtually, where you will be given the opportunity to share, process emotions and grow as a family through exercises provided to you and tools that will hopefully give you a better opportunity to cope with and move through your challenges together. The goal of family counseling is to strengthen your family bond in whatever way possible. The process of family therapy can be a series of sessions with the entire family that also includes individual sessions with each member. Your therapist will collaborate with you and your family to decide what is best and most effective for your healing process.

The benefits of counseling in a family are endless, but some of the most notable and common changes that families experience include:

  • Stronger communication

  • Better support for family members facing addiction and recovery

  • Healthy conflict resolution

  • Closer bonds between family members

  • Cohesive blended family dynamic

  • Less conflict in the household

  • Healthier co-parenting in both separate households and joint

Family Counseling for Those Struggling with Addiction and Recovery

Insight Northwest provides the treatment and counseling for those impacted by addiction personally and their loved ones. We recognize the difficulty that lies within trying to support a loved one suffering with addiction or in the process of recovery, and we strive to provide help for the loved ones who are directly affected by addiction. We offer addiction treatment therapy, individual therapy, couples counseling, child counseling and family counseling – each being useful in the process of recovery and walking beside a loved one through recovery.

Family counseling is incredibly helpful in the process of addiction recovery. It offers the family the opportunity to process all of the complex and difficult emotions and also learn how they can best navigate such a trying time of stress and transition. We believe that if a person suffering from addiction has a strong and capable support system by their side, they are even more capable of triumphing through the challenges in front of them. We make it our goal to support both the individual and their loved ones to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported through such a sensitive time.
